The Declaration of Unity

Have you ever looked back on writing that you did years ago?  And have you ever noticed that the basic themes don’t really change all that much?  And it doesn’t even matter how many years it’s been. And I’m not talking here, mind you, about personal things, internal issues, I’m talking about greater things, worldwide things, evolutionary things.

As I was surfing around earlier this morning, noticing all the interest and activity being focused on this day of 12.12.12, I found a really cool trailer of a movie celebrating the interconnectedness of everyone on the planet. That struck a little cord, in the back, back recesses of my mind.  I remembered that 30 years ago in 1982, I had written an article entitled The Declaration of Unity.

I searched and searched and finally found a typewritten draft. (It was so long ago that PCs were still a dream of the future!) It did end up being published in some South Florida magazine.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy it.  I know it's a bit long! Comments are always welcome.

A  Renaissance of the American Spirit

We, the people of South Florida, in the spirit of brotherhood with all of mankind, would like to proclaim March 28, 1982 as a turning point in the course of human events.

1982 marks the 200th anniversary of the Great Seal of these United States.  As the national Coat of Arms, the Seal clearly represents our nation’s character and purpose, and the principles which animated the founders of our Republic.  To commemorate this event, we are beckoning our fellow man, our planetary brothers, if you will, to take this opportunity to restate and rededicate themselves to those universal principles of upon which our great nation was founded.

The true American spirit has always glorified the freedom to be, in all of its many forms.  The founding fathers of these United States established our nation in the spirit of brotherhood, cooperation, strength, duration, peace and with a spiritual vision.

In light of the present state of national and world affairs, it is obvious that many of these fundamental principles have been being forgotten.

The time is now for a new declaration … not of independence, however, for independence implies separateness … but rather a Declaration of Unity, of Oneness … of Being … a United States of Being … in body, mind and soul … Of the People, By the People, and For the People.

We are presently on the launch pad of transcending old values for new ones … just as we were in 1776. Right now, it is imperative that each and every one of us begin to become more consciously aware of our unity … beginning with an internal unity of our fragmented, disconnected parts and extending to the unity with all. Only then can we begin to turn the tide of the overwhelming negativity that seeks to engulf us and our planet.

As the symbolic statement of the destiny of America, the Great Seal was meant to serve as a continual reminder of the principles on which our nation was founded.  The phrases found on the obverse and reverse sides of the Seal
E. Pluribus Unum … Out of Many, One; Annuit Coeptis … He hath prospered our Undertaking; Novus Ordo Seclorum … New order of the Ages

all clearly state the fundamentals of Unity, Divine Guidance and the establishment of a new opportunity for man to realize his Essential Nature.

The eagle is an ancient symbol of spiritual wisdom, and as such, proclaims that spiritual vision was and still is essential to the true Spirit of America.  The olive branch represents peace and the eagle faces that symbol.  The (13) arrows, while emblems of war, more importantly symbolize aim, which denotes purpose, will and intention.

The obverse side of the Great Seal sets forth the principle that the primary aim of the United States shall be to establish peace in the world.  According to the prophetic promise of the Great Seal … Novus Ordo Seclorum … it is the destiny of the United States to bring forth a new order of the ages based on reason, reciprocity, goodwill and peace.  A reconsideration of this message will point us to the truths that have the power to truly set us free.

Together, the two sides of the Great Seal represent the totality of man.  The eagle pertains to the material aspect of our unfolding and the pyramid relates to man’s spiritual nature.  E. Pluribus Unum is the connection. Together, they point toward the movement of the human mind from the fractured view of external appearances toward the discovery of the One.

E. Pluribus Unum, suggested in I Corinthians, reflects not unity through uniformity, but oneness of aim and purpose, devotion to similar ideals, and agreement as to direction and allegiance to God as the over-seer of our Land. These spiritual truths, as set forth in the Great Seal, were intended to serve as a guide in ordering our social relationship toward greater harmony, fuller cooperation and genuine brotherhood.

For the past 200 years, we have primarily been concerned with laying the foundation for the new order.  It has been the role of the United States to create those material conditions that will provide the maximum in physical comfort and leisure, such that the higher life of man might receive added opportunity for development.  We only have to open our eyes to see that we have succeeded to that end, admirably.

The pyramid, or reverse side of the seal, however, proclaims that while we must develop a civilization that has at its command the riches of the earth and a mastery of the forces of nature, it must at the same time, make these servants of the mind and spirit and aids to the cultivation of the higher faculties of man.  “First the natural, then the spiritual.” We have yet to realize those intentions.

It was not until 1935, more than 150 years after its initial acceptance and for the first time in the history of our nation, the message of the Great Seal of the United States went into circulation, on the back of the one dollar bill.

We, in South Florida, are gathering strength daily.  Obviously, the need for a new Spirit of Unity to emerge which will turn the tide of the overwhelming negativity that surrounds us all is great and pervasive.  On March 28, 1982, South Florida will initiate a three month long celebration commemorating the 200th birthday of the Great Seal of the United States.  Efforts are presently underway for a daylong celebration … A Declaration of Unity … the theme of which will restate and honor the symbolic statement of the Great Seal. That will set off a chain reaction of similar events, nation and worldwide, culminating on June 20, the actual date that the seal was adopted.

What can you do? How can you be part of this transformation process?  “As we begin to change ourselves, we will change the world.”  Take this opportunity to begin your own personal transformation, by turning your awareness within and unite with other like-minded souls … Inspire or stimulate those more skeptical … Begin today!

Please join with us in this united effort.

If our founding fathers had not united in belief, effort and action, we would certainly not have this great and glorious land of ours in which to live …

“America, America, God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood.
From sea to shining sea.”

heART and Soul Connection

I am thrilled to announce the I have started my very first Meetup Group The heART and Soul Connection. Our first gathering is scheduled for Sat., Jan. 12 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm. in the Marietta (GA.) area. Exact location still to be determined.

I have thought about this on and off for some time and believe it or not, something came over me on Monday afternoon and the next thing I know I had created the group!! The following is how I described my vision:

This is a group for everyone that would like to explore and empower their heART & Soul. Our very nature as human beings is to be creative, and yet, for most people, the creative spirit has been forgotten, suppressed or denied.

My vision is to see this group as a gathering place for like-minded spirits ... a place to rediscover and reclaim our Authentic, Creative Selves ... in an atmosphere of safety, nurturance and support ...To light each other's way ... To celebrate each other's successes ... To begin to live our lives as our greatest work of art! (And have FUN!)

If this speaks to you in any way, please join us!

Do you know anyone in the Atlanta area? I would be so -o-o grateful if you would pass on the news!

Heart-Based Living

I first discovered HeartMath, Doc Childre, etc. almost 10 years ago. The idea of heARTmatters had just "dawned" on me and I was drawn to anything/ everything I could get my hands on that seemed to have any relevance to matters of the heART.

Synchronistically enough, I just came upon a link to their site. The extent of their research has multiplied exponentially ... Here's a small sampling.

Coming Out of Hiding

"Every time you suppress some part of yourself or allow others to play you small, you are in essence ignoring the owner's manual your Creator gave you and destroying your design." - - OprahWinfrey

" When you finally expose yourself and let yourself be known, the sky does not fall.  Instead, things begin to unfold; miracles happen"
- - Suzanne Falter-Barns

I came upon these two quotes recently. In between, I read something about the Story of the Talents from the Bible.  What all this is saying to me (screaming at me, to be more accurate) is that it is indeed time to come out of hiding.

I suppose we all hide parts of ourselves ... to one degree or another.  Whether for fear or embarrassment or what ever reason we might come up with, it is an all-too-common practice for us to hold ourselves back … To hide, what may in fact be our most brilliant qualities.

OK, OK, so we all do it.  So, what do we do about it?  What do we do to make this "coming out" any easier?
Maybe, the bottom-line truth is, there is no easy way.  I can once again make an analogy to the process of birth.  There is no way around it, birth is messy and in most cases is painful!  So, if those are the facts ... if that is just the way it is ... what can we do?
Like with everything else, the first step always has to be awareness:
1.  Being aware that the process of coming out may be messy and painful, alongside
2.  The fact that staying hidden is probably even more painful.
"And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom." - - Anais Nin
But, here's the tricky part.  Somehow the pain associated with holding back and staying hidden is so familiar, that we don't even realize that it’s painful.  Or, maybe we are so deadened to the pain, we don't even realize it's there anymore.

1.  We start with awareness.  Then,
2.  We accept the facts for what they are, as they are.  And then,
3.  We take an action.

Now this can get to be a bit tricky or sticky, as well.  Here's where courage or faith or support or any of the untold qualities we need to move forward in life Must come into play.  For most people, it's much too scary to take these kinds of steps alone.

Think of it like this.  A baby will tentatively and precariously attempt to take their first steps alone and more likely than not, a loving parent can and will be there to aid, assist, support and then, acknowledge.  So, we, too, need those very same things.

Oh, sure, we can do it on our own.  And probably have done it on our own.  I know I have. But, it certainly makes Life and "Moving Out" or "Coming Out" ... Being All That You Can Be ... BEing Your Very Best Self ... Living from Your Magnificence ... all come a lot easier when allowing ourselves to be supported.

So, ask yourself What Are My Talents That I'm Hiding?  The answers may not come to you immediately, but they are there inside of you, just the same.  Maybe you need to write about it?  Ask yourself the question ... sitting in front of a blank piece of paper with pen in hand ... and then just see what happens.  If no answers come, ask the question again ... and again ... and again if necessary.  The answers will come.  The answers are there.

Or maybe you need to paint about it ... or draw about it ... or collage about it?  Make some time ... create some space ... turn off the noise and allow yourself to become quiet. As Sarah Ban Breathnach says,

"Allow the static of the world to clear ... and the soul's Morse Code to come through ... There is no more exciting, inspiring and important adventure than the reunion with your Self.  There is no gift from Spirit greater than knowing who you are and owning [her] with joy and gratitude."

HeartFire Gateway

Day 26 of the 42-day HeartFire Experience. Very powerful tool for transformation.

"To live in accord with love is to set your heart on fire.
In the crucible of such an inferno all convention burns away.
What's left is an entirely new kind of existence, one full of
passion, presence and infinite possibility."

The Creative Side of Healing

I have always been fascinated with words … how and where they originate … and how seemingly unrelated words can be derived from the same roots. Case in point, the words heal, whole and holy can all be traced back to the same Anglo-Saxon and Latin origins.

Now take the word diseasedis + ease. Dis - means apart, away, negation, lack, reversal, deprivation. As such, dis-ease literally means the negation, lack, reversal, etc. of the state of ease, wholeness, health.

To heal suggests the opposite of dis-ease … The idea of being whole again … to be restored and be returned to the whole, "holy" aspect of our nature … that part of us that expresses the divine, creative spirit that lives within us all.
"Healing is regaining the memory of what it was to be whole."
- - Deepak Chopra

Creativity, to me, is simply taking that which is within and expressing it outside of ourselves. It is one of the most powerful processes we know of to reduce or even eliminate dis - ease and in so doing, regain our wholeness, health and divinity.

Frida Kahlo, the Mexican Painter (1907-1954) is a perfect example. Not only was she stricken with polio at the age of six, but was later seriously injured in a bus accident at age 18. Her body was almost entirely crushed and she spent the rest of her life in and out of hospitals, undergoing 30 operations, bedridden for long periods and in tremendous pain. Only her strength and will to live (and in my opinion, her painting) allowed her not only to survive, but make a remarkable recovery.

Frida began to paint shortly after her accident because she was bored being in bed. Painting then became her lifelong passion and profession. She expressed all of her emotions on the canvas.

"I paint my own reality. The only thing I know is that I paint because I need to, and I paint whatever passes through my head without any other consideration …

My painting carries with it the message of pain ... Painting completed my life ... I believe that work is the best thing."

One of the greatest expressions of the healing aspect of creativity was Frida's appearance at her one and only exhibition in Mexico in the spring of 1953. Her health was extremely poor at that point and she was advised not to attend.

But in her inimitable style, nothing was going to stop Frida, especially from attending a party in her honor. She arrived at the exhibition by ambulance and was then taken by stretcher to her own bed that had been placed in the center of the gallery. True to form, she told jokes, entertained the crowd and sang and drank the entire evening.

She told reporters, "I am not sick. I am broken. But I am happy as long as I can paint."
