While there are many things I don't particularly like about this Brave New World ... the ability to publish online instantaneously is definitely not one of them.
CASE IN POINT:
I put together a collection of some of my work Many Years Ago. (I am too embarrassed to say how many.) I called it Celebrations of Wonder.
It was a bunch of articles that I set up like a book with a Table of Contents, Definition Page, Introduction and a bunch of Quotes. Now that I think about it, I may have submitted it to a couple of publishers.
Anyway, there is certainly no better time of year to reflect on the idea of Wonder. So, I've decided to share Celebrations of Wonder with you.
I always like to begin with a definition, so here's what Mr. Webster has to say about Wonder:
1. A person, thing or event that causes astonishment and admiration; marvel.
2. The feeling of surprise, admiration, and awe aroused by something strange, unexpected, incredible, etc.
3. A miracle.
1. To be seized or filled with wonder; feel amazement; marvel.
2. To have doubt mingled with curiosity.
1. To have doubt and curiosity about; want to know.
What various people have to say about Wonder:
“He who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead; his eyes are closed." - - Albert Einstein
“Philosophy begins in wonder. And in the end, when philosophic thought has done its best, wonder remains." - - Alfred North Whitehead
“There is wonder in the moment, if we but look for it, let it touch us, believe in it. And with the recognition and celebration of the wonder, comes the joy we desire and await ..." - - Each Day a New Beginning, April 25
“Those precious moments that catch our attention and open our hearts to let our spirits fly." - - Author unknown

So I’m sitting on my patio and enjoying the glorious day and I notice a bird flying right outside my window. As I watched, I became aware that the bird did not seem to be going anywhere ... it was just flying ... back and forth, up and down, swooping, gliding ... in a small area right outside my window. I decided that it was just flying for the mere experience of what flying is all about ... for the pure joy of it.
I became totally absorbed in this bird and its experience and was overcome by a sense of the Wonder of it all. My thoughts then started to expand beyond the bird to the expanse of the entire view outside of the window. The sky, clouds, sunshine, trees and the beautiful lake on which my apartment sits.
I started to feel a sense of pride well up inside of me ... pride in the fact that I had found this Wonder-full place to live ... all by myself ... and had packed and moved ... all by myself ...
and had unpacked and settled in ... all by myself ... and had picked out and bought furniture ... all by myself ... and was paying for everything ... all by myself ... with money I had earned ... all by myself ... with no help from anyone ... just me ... myself ... and my God.
Look at all of the accomplishments. Pretty amazing for the girl who has spent most of her life thinking she couldn’t do anything on her own ... now look at her ... WOW ... talk about a sense of Wonder!
Thank you dear God, for taking me by the hand even when I didn’t believe ... even when I forget to believe ... when I can’t seem to get myself to believe ... Thank you for bringing me from so little to so much and thank you for leading me to even greater moments of Wonder to Celebrate.
