Epiphanies ... Rainbows ... And More

I feel like I’m in the middle of an Epiphany … is that even possible? What I mean is that things I have struggled with for so long … my life … my purpose … have finally started to become clear.

I’m realizing that I’m a true adventurer … I love discovering new things … and then passing that information on … I believe that underneath that is the need to inspire …

For as far back as I can remember, I was the only person in my immediate world that was always trying out something new and different ... exploring … examining. For years, I was regarded as a “Kook” … certainly by my family … but my friends too … and worst-of-all myself!

Neurotically, I chastised myself for being that way but even that self-imposed misery couldn’t stop me … on I went … Anyone remember Flip Wilson? (Boy, does that date me or what?) Well, the devil didn’t make me do it but something greater than myself must have …

Only very recently do I feel a greater clarity and focus ... It seems like the Universe is conspiring … not in a bad way … but making it Crystal-clear to even someone as hard-headed as me … that everywhere I turn … I see everything clearly interrelated … Synchronicity to the Max …

And the opportunity to share is limitless …

Case in Point:

I went on an email purging binge today … as a “hoarder of sorts” I save loads of emails thinking I’ll look at them sometime. Most often, I don’t … but today I did … and I’m so glad …

I regularly receive emails from Colossal … I have no idea how I found them and didn’t even really know what it was … all I knew was that they had stories about art and artists.

So when I got to their email of 1/14/14 with the subject line “Take a Walk in a Palace of Rainbows” I knew I had to check it out …

Here’s what I discovered:

From the About Page of thisiscolossal.com

“Launched in 2010, Colossal is a Webby-nominated blog that explores art and other aspects of visual culture. Colossal won the Utne Media Award for Arts Coverage in 2013 and is ranked by Technorati as one of the top 50 blogs on the web. Each week you’ll find 15-25 posts on photography, design, animation, painting, installation art, architecture, drawing, and street art. Colossal is also a great place to learn about the intersection of art and science as well as the beauty of the natural world. There are frequently posts about things far out in left field, but generally Colossal is a reminder that in this digital age there are still countless people making incredible work with their bare hands ...

Christopher Jobson is the creator and sole editor of Colossal.”

“Created in 2006 by multidisciplinary artist Kimsooja, To Breathe – A Mirror Woman was an elaborate installation at the Palacio de Cristal, Parque del Retiro, in Madrid.

Originally built in the late 1880s to house a collection of flora and fauna from the Philippines, Kimsooja transformed the Palacio de Cristal into a multisensory sound and light experience.

A special translucent diffraction film was used to cover the windows to create an array of naturally occurring rainbows which were in turn reflected by a mirrored surface that covered the entire floor.

Additionally, an audio recording of the artist breathing was played throughout the space to further enhance the experience. The installation was on view through the end of the summer and you can read much more about it here
