Iron Man Saves the Day before there was an Iron Man.
Some 20+ years ago, an elderly woman and her granddaughter attended a fundraising "garden party" type of event. It was held in Los Angeles and a number of celebrities were in attendance ... among them Robert Downey Jr. with Sarah Jessica Parker on his arm (I told you it was a long-time ago.)
The afternoon’s main honoree was Ron Kovic, whose story of his time in the Vietnam War that had left him confined to a wheelchair was immortalized in the Oliver Stone film Born on the Fourth of July.
As the woman got up to leave, she tripped over the wheelchair ramp that had been set up for Kovic and gashed open her shin. It bled profusely. The granddaughter thought she was going to be sick.
And so guess who came over and took total charge of the situation? Yep, Robert Downey Jr. He even took off his cream-colored linen suit jacket and tied it around the gash ...

It's a beautiful, heart-warming, uplifting story ... not the typical story we see coming out of Hollywood ... and the guy who saves the day is a guy who spent years addicted to drugs and alcohol ... had repeated encounters with the law ... numerous stints in rehab and a 12-month jail sentence.
I guess we just never know ... do we?
FYI - Downey has been clean and sober for close to 10 years now. He married for a 2nd time in 2005 to producer Susan Levin and they gave birth to their first child in 2012. His career is continuing it's meteoric journey ...
