I thought I remembered it to be 365 days but when I tried to retrace my steps, all I could find was an artist who put forth a 60 or 62 day challenge?? I began the challenge on 7/21/13 . . . with all the best intentions . . . but never got past 8/14/13 . . . I ended up with a total of 33 drawings (some days I did more than one, I guess.)
Anyway, lucky, for me, my tendency to hold onto things worked in my best interest this time and when I moved from GA. To FL. I remember thinking about tossing those 33 drawings but something stopped me.
So, fast forward to July of this year and I was guided to begin drawing 1 picture every day. At the beginning, I didn’t even have any clear idea of how long I would continue . . . I figured 30 or 60 days.
Well, I stayed true to myself and passed 30 days . . . then 60 days . . . then 90 days . . . By the beginning of November I had completed 97 drawings and somehow the number 108 popped into my mind.
I knew it was considered a special number . . . the number of beads on a mala . . . 108 steps somewhere . . . but I was amazed that throughout history many faiths and religions have regarded it as a sacred number.
Then there’s a mathematical significance, and both astronomical and astrological significance . . . Who knew?
I feel complete and very satisfied with my accomplishment. Whether it’s because I stopped at 108, or not, I don’t know . . . but it sort of feels significant.
Maybe the most significant thing is that it got me writing again. This is my first post since 9/2/15. Life has been extremely challenging for months now and I could not wrap my head around writing anything . . . but despite everything else, I did my drawings . . . for 108 days . . . and now feel ready for something new.
P.S. Here’s my first drawing . . . What do you think of this name "Dots-A- Doodle"?
P.P.S. I've joined FineArtAmerica and have about 15 drawings and painting posted there. (No 3x5s) They take any design and will make prints in any number of sizes . . . plus other products as well.
